Hi, everyone! It’s time to tell you a little bit about myself.
My name is Onigiri, obviously not my real name. But I’ve been called ‘Oni’ as a nickname for years now, since I am known online as Onigiri (if you know, you know).
I am a 38-year-old, anime-loving and game-addicted book-girly who was born and raised in the Netherlands. For my daytime job I work for Comfort Heating as a production and account manager. On the side I also work for TechGaming, writing reviews and making videos for our YouTube channel. Very versatile, as you can see.
Back then:
A little more than 10 years ago, I discovered a passion for Japan as a country, the culture and therefore also the cuisine. Specifically, the home-cooking side of Japan.
In 2015 I had decided to make a website/blog with recipes from existing recipes so that everyone can recreate them to their own tastes. I realised that not everybody has easy access to the Asian products that are used in the base recipes. My goal was to offer alternative ingredients, without the cost of the authentic flavors. Even though in the Netherlands the Japanese cuisine was not very popular yet, aside from the obvious, sushi. I really hoped I could inspire people who read my blog to try the home-cooking recipes I was offering.

Now:
Even though my last post was in 2016, my love for Japan never left, and there was not a single day in the past 10 years that I did not think about continuing the website. Eventually years passed; time goes by so quickly, and now here we are in 2025. I am ready to revive my website, this time a little bit more professional and with a newfound curiosity towards the Korean kitchen added.
Plus side, nowadays it’s a lot easier to get more authentic products in the regular supermarkets and even available online, and who knows what the future will bring? Maybe I will make it possible to help you get said products!
This way I hope to share my love and undying passion for Japanese cuisine and culture with other people who are willing to take the time to read my posts.
